<BC-away> LOTS OF COOL AND RETRO DESIGNS AT LOST ANGELES RUBBER WORKS

<BC-away> THIS PROJECT USES A PLAIN COTTON CANVAS TOTE AVAILABLE AT MOST MAJOR CRAFT STORES. DO *NOT* PREWASH THE TOTE. CUT A PIECE OF CARDBOARD SUCH AS A PIZZA BOX TO FIT INSIDE THE TOTE SO THAT THE PAINTS WON'T BLEED THRU.
<BC-away> THIS TOTE HAS RATHER A ROUGH WEAVE TO IT. YOU COULD GET BETTER RESULTS ON A FINER WOVEN TOTE AND WOULD BE EXCELLENT ON A T-SHIRT

STEP 1

<BC-away> USE PAINTERS TAPE TO MASK OFF THE TOP, BOTTOM AND BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT. TO COLOR THIS TOTE I USED JACQUARD'S TEXTILE TRADITIONALS EXCITER PACK AND SHERRILL'S SORBET COLORS EXCITER PACK TEXTILE PAINTS.

STEP 2

<BC-away> BEGIN BY SQUIRTING OUT A LINE OF THE TEXTILE TRADITIONALS PAINT AND USE A ROUND SPONGE TO SPREAD IT AROUND IN A ROW. CONTINUE UNTIL FRONT OF TOTE IS COMPLETLY COVERED.

<BC-away> YOU CAN FIND THOSE IN THE ART SUPPLIES AND POLYMER CLAY SECTIONS OF CRAFT STORES

<BC-away> I USED GOLDENROD, SCARLET RED, TURQUOISE, VIOLET, SCARLET RED, PERIWINKLE, GOLDENROD AND SKY BLUE
.

STEP 3
<BC-away> ADDING THE DECORATIVE STAMPINGS

<BC-away> USE COSMETIC SPONGE TO DAUB SORBET PAINTS ONTO STAMPS AND STAMP ROWS OF IMAGES AS SHOWN. I USED LEMON, MELON, MANGO, WATERMELON, MINT, BLUEBERRY, GRAPE AND TANGERINE.
<BC-away> LOVE THE COLORS AND NAMES OF THE SORBET PAINTS

<BC-away> STAMPS USED WERE ZAPS 'N' ARROWS #0215-DU; BLACK SUN #0513-BU; PEACE #2917-BU; OP ART TILES #2933-BU; FILLED STARBURST #3723-AU; CIRCLE ZAP #3828-BU.

<BC-away> IMPORTANT TIP: HAVE A BOWL OF WATER HANDY TO PUT BOTH YOUR SPONGES AND YOUR UNMOUNTED STAMPS IN WHEN YOU ARE DONE USING THEM. YOU DON'T WANT THE PAINT TO DRY ON EITHER.

STEP 4
<BC-away> REMOVE PAINTERS TAPE AND USE THE BOTTLE OF LUMIERE HALO PINK GOLD THAT COMES WITH THE SORBET EXCITER PACK TO DRAW A LINE AROUND THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE PAINTED AND DECORATED CENTER.

<BC-away> ALLOW THE TOTE TO DRY OVERNIGHT OR 24 HOURS. THEN THE PIECE MUST BE HEAT SET SO THAT THE PAINTS WILL BE PERMANENT AND THE TOTE MAY BE WASHED.

<BC-away> TO DO THIS TURN THE TOTE INSIDE OUT. PLACE PIECE OF HEAT RESISTENT PAPER INSIDE THE TOTE AND PLACE ON IRONING BOARD. IRON THE SURFACE OF THE TOTE THAT WAS PAINTED FOR A MINUTE OR TWO PER AREA UNTIL ALL OF THAT SIDE IS IRONED.

<BC-away> REPEAT THESE STEPS FOR THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TOTE IF YOU WISH. A VARIATION WOULD BE TO SWITCH THE ORDER OF THE PAINTS USED. USE THE SORBET PAINTS TO DO THE BACKGROUND COLORS AND THE TEXTILE TRADITIONALS TO DO THE STAMPS.

<BC-away> YOU COULD ALSO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS ON A SMALL PIECE OF MUSLIN AND USE IT FOR A CARDFRONT
<boomersmom-15> Or make a fabric book
<BC-away> EITHER PRESS UNDER THE EDGES OR FRAY THEM
<AE-CindyC> or do it on muslin and use tack it over glue on your shirt or tote and change them out!
<BC-away> OR USE THE MUSLIN IN AN ALTERED BOOK
<AE-CindyC> make borders for your hippie jeans
<BC-away> OR EVEN FORGET THE MUSLIN AND DO THIS ON A PRIMED SPREAD IN AN ALTERED BOOK
<AE-CindyC> or a quilt!
