<daphne> ATC keeper?
<BlackCats> SOMETHING TO PUT YOUR ATCs IN
<BlackCats> ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH ATCs?
<daphne> Artist trading cards?
<BlackCats> YEAH, BUT YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN AND THEY CAN BE DECORATED TO SUIT YOUR COLOR PREFERENCES
<BlackCats> THIS HOLDER WILL ACCOMODATE ATCs THAT ARE A BIT CHUNKY
<BlackCats> BUT WHAT I DO WITH THE REALLY CHUNKY ATCs IS ADD MAGNETS TO THE BACK AND USE THEM ON THE FRIDGE

<BlackCats> I'VE USED A PRODUCT CALLED PAPER PALETTE FROM STRATHMORE. IT IS A THIN PAPER THAT HAS ONE COATED SIDE. IT IS A GOOD PAPER TO USE FOR THINGS THAT NEED A LOT OF FOLDING. IT IS THIN BUT SURPRISINGLY STRONG. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND IT AT ANY CRAFT STORE OR ART SUPPLY STORE.
<BlackCats> TO COLOR THE PAPERS I'VE USED A HALF-ROUND SPONGE AND VIVID INKPADS (AVAILABLE FROM LARW). CUT YOUR PAPER TO MEASURE 6 3/4" x 12". PLACE A WHOLE SHEET OF THE PALETTE PAPER ON YOUR WORKSURFACE TO PROTECT IT. SPRITZ THE CUT PAPER TIL IT IS UNIFORMLY MOIST BUT NOT DRIPPING WET.

<BlackCats> USE THE SPONGE TO PICK UP THE INK FROM THE VARIOUS COLORS OF VIVID INKPADS AND DAB IT ONTO THE PAPER UNTIL YOU ARE PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS. I WANTED TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION OF RAINBOW COLORS SO I USED RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN AND PURPLE. ALLOW PAPER TO DRY COMPLETELY.
<cak> and you color the coated side, I presume?
<BlackCats> YOU DON'T WANT THE PAPER SOAKING WET, JUST WET ENOUGH TO MOVE THE INK THRU THE FIBERS FOR GOOD COLOR
<BlackCats> NO, THE UNCOATED SIDE, THANKS CAK
<BlackCats> THIS PROJECT IS MADE IN A WAY THAT IT WILL BE EXPANDABLE AS YOU GET MORE ATCs YOU WANT IN YOUR KEEPER. FOR EACH 2-PAGE SPREAD YOU WILL NEED TWO SHEETS OF PREPARED PAPER. YOU CAN EASILY ADD MORE PAGES AND ACCORDIAN BOOKLETS.

<BlackCats> MEASURE EACH SIDE OF YOUR PAPER WITH IT LAID OUT THE LONG WAY AND THE SLICK SIDE FACING UP. PUT A TINY MARK AT 1/2" AND 3". CAREFULLY MAKE YOUR FOLDS. FOLD THE 1/2" UP AND THEN FOLD AGAIN AT THE 3" MARK. FOLD THIS IN HALF LENGTHWISE AND THEN FOLD EITHER END BACK TO THE MIDDLE SO THAT YOU END UP WITH AN ACCORDIAN FOLDED BOOKLET WITH FOUR POCKETS.
<BlackCats> UNFOLD. PLACE DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ON THE 1/2" SECTION, REMOVE COVER OF TAPE AND FOLD THIS UP. THIS WILL FORM A REINFORCED LIP FOR YOUR POCKETS. PLACE DOUBLE SIDED TAPE AT EITHER END AND IN THE MIDDLE AS SHOWN IN THE DIAGRAM. REMOVE COVER AND CAREFULLY ALIGN ALL EDGES AND FIRMLY PRESS TAPE JOINTS.

<BlackCats> REFOLD THE ACCORDIAN BOOKLET. YOU WILL NEED TWO ACCORDIAN BOOKLETS FOR EACH TWO PAGES IN YOUR ATC KEEPER.

<BlackCats> CUT TWO PIECES OF BOOKBOARD, CHIPBOARD OR CARDBOARD SUCH AS WHAT YOU WOULD FIND AT THE BACK OF A NOTEPAD TO MEASURE 4 1/4" x 3 3/4". APPLY TWO COATS OF WHITE GESSO TO SEAL THE BOOKBOARD. USE SPONGE AND VIVID INKS TO COLOR BOTH SIDES OF BOTH COVERS. FOR THIS SAMPLE I DID NOT WET THE SPONGE. IF YOU WANT A MORE PASTEL COLOR, MOISTEN YOUR SPONGE FIRST.
<BlackCats> A LIL SECRET HERE
<BlackCats> I JUST LOVE COMING UP WITH WAYS TO USE THOSE DRINKS COASTERS YOU GET AT RESTAURANTS
<BlackCats> THAT'S WHAT I USED FOR MY COVERS BUT BOOKBOARD, ETC, WORKS JUST FINE TOO
<BlackCats> JUST USE A CORNER ROUNDER ON THEM FOR A MORE FINISHED LOOK
<BlackCats> OH, BY THE WAY, WEARING GLOVES TO PREPARE YOUR PAPERS AND COVERS IS A GOOD IDEA UNLESS YOU WANT COLORFUL FINGERS FOR A DAY OR SO. DON'T ASK <g>

<BlackCats> MAKE YOURSELF A GUIDE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF THE HOLES IN YOUR COVERS. MEASURE IN FROM EITHER END (LONGWAYS) 1/2" AND MAKE A MARK. FIND THE CENTER AND MAKE A MARK. MEASURE IN 1/4" FROM THE EDGE AND MAKE A MARK. USE A HOLE PUNCHER TO MAKE THE THREE HOLES. USE APPROPRIATE SIZE OF LOOSE-LEAF BINDER RINGS TO CONNECT PAGES OF YOUR ATC KEEPER.
<Wanda> Did you seal the vivid inks on the covers?
<BlackCats> NO WANDA
<BlackCats> I HAVEN'T NOTICED THAT IT'S WORN OFF ANY
<BlackCats> POSITION YOUR PREPARED ACCORDIAN BOOKLET OVER THE COVER AND MARK ON EITHER SIDE AT MIDPOINT. PUT A STRIP OF DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ACROSS THE MIDDLE AND ADD A PIECE OF RIBBON OR FIBER THAT WILL BE THE CLOSURE FOR THAT ACCORDIAN PAGE. ADD DOUBLE SIDED TAPE LIBERALLY TO THE BACK OF THE ACCORDIAN BOOKLET AND PRESS FIRMLY ONTO COVER.
<BlackCats> FOR YOUR LEFT SIDE PAGE MAKE SURE THE ACCORDIAN BOOKLET LOOKS LIKE AN 'E' SO THAT IT WILL OPEN OUTWARD. FOR THE RIGHT SIDE YOU NEED TO REVERSE THIS SO THAT IT IS A BACKWARDS 'E' FOR IT TO OPEN OUTWARDS.

<BlackCats> I STAMPED WORDS AND SAYINGS ON THE FRONT PAGES OF THE ACCORDIAN BOOKLETS AND ON THE INSIDE PAGES USING BRILLIANCE GRAPHITE BLACK INK. THESE STAMPS ARE FROM TWO PIXIE EXPRESSION KITS AVAILABLE FROM LOST ANGELES RUBBER WORKS, ART #STM-3 AND WORDS OF WISDOM #STM-5.
<BlackCats> THE COVER TITLE WAS DONE ON MY COMPUTER. THE PRINTER WAS SET TO TRANSPARENCIES AND BEST SETTING AND IT WAS PRINTED ONTO VELLUM. HAVE YOUR EMBOSSING POWDER RIGHT THERE AT YOUR PRINTER AND HAVE YOUR TIDY TRAY HANDY. POUR EP ONTO INK AS SOON AS THE PAGE COMES OUT OF THE PRINTER. BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR HEAT GUN MOVING WHILE YOU EMBOSS. TRIM WITH DECKLE SCISSORS AND ADHERE WITH XYRON.
<boomersmo> If you don't have Xyron is there something else to use?
<BlackCats> YES, ANY ADHESIVE THAT WOULD WORK FOR VELLUM WOULD DO

<BlackCats> BTW, IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT AN ATC IS
<BlackCats> THEY ARE ARTISTS TRADING CARDS
<BlackCats> AND MEASURE 2 1/2" X 3 1/2"
<BlackCats> ATCs ARE TO BE TRADED AND USUALLY ARE NOT SOLD
<BlackCats> THIS FAD STARTED IN EUROPE ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND HAS BEEN WORKING IT'S WAY AROUND THE GLOBE EVER SINCE
<BlackCats> IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO THEY HAVE BEEN POPULAR FOR TRADING AT LIVE CONVENTIONS INSTEAD OF CONVENTION PINS

<cak> and you say this can store some of the more dimensional ATCs?
<BlackCats> YES, THE POCKETS WILL ALLOWS FOR BULKIER ATCs
<BlackCats> THE POCKETS ARE ONLY SEPERATED AT THE MIDDLE OF EACH ACCORDIAN BOOKLET
<BlackCats> HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE REALLY BULKY ATCs I'D SUGGEST MAKING THEM INTO MAGNETS
<BlackCats> I HAVE SEVERAL THAT I'VE DONE THIS WAY
<sandy-afk> so you can just keep adding "leaves" to your book, huh?
<BlackCats> YES SANDY

<BlackCats> I SUGGEST YOU KEEP THE TEMPLATE YOU MADE FOR THE POSITIONING OF THE HOLES. YOU CAN EASILY ADD MORE PAGES AND MORE ACCORDIAN BOOKLETS AS YOUR ATC COLLECTION GROWS. YOU WOULD PUT THE NEXT ACCORDIAN BOOKLET ON THE BACK OF THE PREVIOUS PAGE AND ADD ANOTHER PAGE. THE LOOSE-LEAF BINDER RINGS COMES IN AN ASSORTMENT PACKAGE SO YOU CAN EASILY MOVE YOUR ATC KEEPER UP TO A LARGER RING WHEN NECESSARY.
<Rabbit> what did you make the covers from
<BlackCats> I USED DRINK COASTERS FOR MY ATC KEEPER
<BlackCats> BUT BOOKBOARD, CHIPBOARD OR CARDBOARD SUCH AS YOU'D HAVE ON THE BACK OF A NOTEPAD WOULD ALSO WORK
<BlackCats> THE BINDER RINGS GO UP IN SIZE TO ABOUT 2" SO YOU COULD ADD A LOT OF PAGES BEFORE YOU'D NEED TO START ANOTHER KEEPER
<BlackCats> I TIED MATCHING FIBERS TO ALL THREE OF THE BINDER RINGS
<BlackCats> YOU COULD ADD LOTS OF OTHER EMBELLISHMENTS SUCH AS BEADS, CHARMS, SHRINK PLASTIC DOODADS
<BlackCats> THE LAST TWO SCANS SHOW THE ATC KEEPER UNFOLDED WITH THE ATCs IN THEIR POCKETS.
